My name is Abbey. I was born and raised in Tāmaki Mākaurau, Auckland, and spent six years in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington, before returning home. I would like to acknowledge the Mana Whenua of Tāmaki Mākaurau, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, where I grew up and am now practicing as an Intern Psychologist.
I am a Registered Intern Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and am completing my seventh and final year of study to become a Registered Counselling Psychologist. I have over six years’ experience working with children and young people across education and youth development settings, with a focus on youth development, mental health, and wellbeing. I have also facilitated Anxiety New Zealand’s peer support groups for the past three years.
My approach to therapy is person-centred and contextual. I primarily draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an evidence-based approach that supports people to develop skills for navigating difficult experiences while connecting with what matters most to them. I am passionate about fostering safe and collaborative spaces where clients feel empowered, heard, and supported.
I work with people aged 13 years and older who are navigating experiences such as those relating to anxiety, depression and low mood, identity, self-esteem, relationships, stress, and life transitions. I am a rainbow+ affirming practitioner who is dedicated to ongoing learning and development.
In my free time, I enjoy going for walks, ocean swims, spending time with friends and family, and playing guitar.
