What We Saw in 2025: Anxiety, Support, and What’s Helping Across Aotearoa
Updates / Updates, 27 May 26
The need is real—and growing

In 2025, more people than ever reached out for support with anxiety—and more were met with practical help, understanding, and connection. Across Aotearoa, Anxiety New Zealand provided over 300,000 moments of support through our helpline, courses, resources, and community outreach

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health challenges in New Zealand. Recent data shows that around 1 in 3 adults experience symptoms of anxiety or depression. (Reference)

This year, we saw a 75% increase in the number of callers experiencing high distress on our 24/7 helpline.

More people are reaching out in moments of overwhelm—and that’s an important step toward getting support.

Support is reaching people in different ways

In 2025, Anxiety NZ provided 300,000+ points of connection across helpline support, online resources, education programmes, and community outreach.

We’re seeing that when support is accessible, practical, and easy to engage with—people use it.

  • 1,300+ people enrolled in digital wellbeing education

  • 740 enrolled in our Empowered online course

  • 600+ educators gained tools to support anxiety in children

Real people, real impact

Behind every number is a person finding support:

“Knowing I’m not alone is really comforting.”

“I'd like to say thank you for being available in times of uncertainty.”

For many, reaching out—whether by phone, online, or through resources—is the first step toward feeling more in control.

Making support visible across Aotearoa

This year, we delivered 40,000 mental health resources to schools, health centres, universities, and community organisations nationwide.

We also launched new tools, including our “Steady in Uncertain Times” course, helping people respond to anxiety linked to climate uncertainty and change.
