Dr. Kahn Tasker
Clinical Psychologist
Connecting with people from all walks of life.

I am a registered clinical psychologist, and graduated with a Doctor of Clinical Psychology, and a Masters of Health Psychology from the University of Auckland. Born to Taiwanese parents, and adopted into a NZ family, I have lived in Auckland my whole life.

I am passionate about supporting clients to engage with therapy to live meaningful lives. I appreciate that psychological work can be challenging, and strive to create a collaborative, person-centered relationship.

I primarily use cognitive-behavioral modalities to help change one's relationship with difficult thoughts, and feelings. Modalities I draw from include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and other therapies that are grounded in building psychological flexibility. I also use psychodynamic-informed approaches, where appropriate, to build insight around how our past experiences affect our present actions. I can work with a range of different conditions, including anxiety, phobias, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), depression, and health-related difficulties. I have a strong interest in how cultural factors impact our mental health, especially in relation to struggling with identity, and belonging.

Before training as a clinical psychologist, I was a helpline volunteer and duty manager for Anxiety NZ Trust for five years. I split my time between clinical work, and academic research and teaching, where I conduct research to better support Asian mental health in NZ.

I really enjoy connecting with people from all walks of life, and believe in the importance of lived experience. I look forward to working together to meet your needs and move towards your goals.
